Who doesn’t love Italian food!? Even the ambience of an Italian restaurant is enough to keep people coming back. Too bad the menu at Olive Garden is not something you should “keep coming back” for. I had a tough time finding menu selections I’d approve. The sodium alone knocked several otherwise “OK” dishes off my list. If an item made the cut, it’s because the calories, saturated fat, sodium and carb-to-fiber ratio were acceptable.
The funny thing with this menu is that the desserts were actually easier for me to approve since the sodium content in each treat didn’t exceed the recommended daily intake in one serving, like the majority of entrees and starters did.
As always, say NO to the bread basket! And absolutely NO to the dipping sauces that accompany them. Ask for dressing on the side with your salad and stick to the lunch portions. If you get a cup of soup, a fish entree, a skinny beverage and split a dessert, you’re still taking in a whopping 900 calories and coming in just under 1,100mg sodium… in one sitting.
Imagine how those numbers would drastically change with the addition of breadsticks… The breadsticks whose nutritional content aren’t even listed on the website.
